Kites- A Journey
Never Ends
The Kite is an intriguing object that portrays a journey full of ups and downs.
The production ‘Kites’ aims at personifying kites into the life that we live as humans. It highlights various aspects of the journey of a kite that can be used to draw comparisons to the life instances of humans.
The kite depicts freedom but one which is controlled. It teaches us how a string can give longer life to the kite flying freely in the sky. The very string that helps the kite fly is also the one binding it which depicts that freedom is not absolute if it has to be long-lived. The moment the binding force is cut off, there is absolute freedom but it is short-lived.
The game of kites is a reflection of how we humans always think that the grass is greener on the other side. The limitless sky is available to our kite yet it gives us a special pleasure in cutting the other kites around us.
In our lives, we all move according to the society we live in and the culture we belong to. We evolve with the teachings of our parents and teachers and learn to make our own decisions when we grow up. No matter how old we get, we always need the support of our family and friends who protect us from swaying away and keep us grounded when we achieve a certain height in life.
Similarly, there are tacit rules that govern how a kite is flown. It needs the right push, optimal support of the wind force, the strength of the string, and a skilled flyer to handle it all to understand when the string needs to be pulled and when to let go.
The musical dance production ‘Kites’ highlights the human life story by putting a mirror in front of society with the personification of the life stages of a kite, exploring its emotional journey..
